Lifesaving Certification Programs
At Marina’s Swim School, we proudly offer the Lifesaving Society’s Bronze certification courses, the foundational steps for those aspiring to become lifeguards or simply enhance their lifesaving skills.
Bronze Star
Duration: 10–12 hours
Prerequisite:
- None (Red Cross Swim Kids 10 or Lifesaving Swim Patrol experience recommended).
Overview:
Bronze Star is an excellent preparatory course for the Bronze Medallion. It develops problem-solving, decision-making, and lifesaving skills through individual and partner scenarios. Candidates also learn CPR techniques and gain the confidence to act as their own lifeguard. Includes a 400m timed swim.
Evaluation & Certification:
- Evaluated and certified by current Lifesaving Instructors.
- Certification remains valid for 24 months.

Bronze Medallion
Duration: 18–20 hours
Prerequisite:
- Minimum age: 13 years OR
- Bronze Star certification (need not be current).
Overview:
The Bronze Medallion course builds understanding of the four components of water-rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness. Candidates learn lifesaving tows, carries, defence methods, and releases, preparing them for rescues of increased risk. The course also emphasizes stroke efficiency and includes a 400m timed swim.

- Evaluated by current Lifesaving Instructors.
- Only Bronze Cross Examiners can certify candidates.
- Certification remains valid for 24 months.

- Canadian Lifesaving Manual
Bronze Cross
Duration: 18–20 hours
Prerequisite:
- Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid certifications (need not be current).
- We recommend Standard First Aid as it is a prerequisite for the National Lifeguard program.
Overview:
The Bronze Cross course challenges participants with advanced lifesaving techniques, including an introduction to aquatic facility supervision. This course is a prerequisite for advanced training programs such as National Lifeguard and Instructor certifications. Bronze Cross also includes a timed 400m swim and is recognized as an assistant lifeguard certificate under Ontario Regulation 565.

- Only Bronze Cross Examiners can certify candidates.
- Certification remains valid for 24 months.
